Supplementary Information - Municipal Solid Waste generation in Norway: A panel analysis investigating the waste Kuznets curve

This repository contains the codes for extraction of the data (APIs) and the data/outputs for the Norwegian Waste Kutznes Curve study. Data was retrieved from SSB APIs using the R code 1_APIs_R_SSB_reviewed.R, readily available in the Supplementary Information for reproduction. Please note that retrieving data on different dates can result in small differences in the output; therefore, we are sharing our outputs through the Supplementary Information folder for reproducibility. The outputs from these first steps are full_datatable.csv and independent_variables.csv. In some cases, two datatables from SSB supplied the same information for different periods. When they overlapped, averages were used for the overlapping years. Municipalities in Norway are quite often reorganised (merged, renamed, replaced due to changes in counties) and data is provided in different municipalities' codes/names depending on their year of update. Considerable effort was put into guaranteeing maximum coverage and consistency of regions (check Supplementary Information). In the case of merged municipalities, it was assumed that they were always one from the beginning of the analysed period, and values were filled in based on the average of their weighted values by population. This can be checked in detail in the code 2_RegionsFix.R, which uses a manually constructed dataset for corrections (regions_fix.xlsx). All R codes used are encoded with UTF-8. R version: 4.5.0 (it is particularly important for the Yeo-Johnson transformation to run it on an R version of 4.3.3 or more recent).
