In this study, we investigated the complex microbial responses to plant growth and oil contamination in agro-ecosystems across a large spatial scale, using agro-soils from different regions in China. To address this aim, a greenhouse experiment was conducted using twenty-one soil samples collected from agricultural fields across a large spatial scale in China. Treatments consisted of plant (Robinia pseudoacacia) growth and/or oil contamination. R. pseudoacacia was selected because of its wide distribution and suitability to a wide range of environments. Then, the microbial communities of the soils were analyzed, using Illumina MiSeq sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene amplicons. This study will contribute to our understanding about soil microbial responses to abiotic and biotic disturbances in agro-ecosystems across a large spatial scale.
