A Research Study – Bridging Diagnostic Gaps: The Impact of Portable Ultrasound on Maternal Anxiety and Fetal Attachment in Rural Areas

This research study examines the role of portable ultrasound technology in reducing maternal anxiety and strengthening maternal–fetal attachment in low-resource and rural settings. Using a cross-sectional survey of 156 pregnant women from both underserved and urban communities, the study compares psychological outcomes based on access to diagnostic ultrasound. Findings reveal that limited ultrasound access is strongly associated with heightened anxiety and reduced fetal attachment, particularly among women with prior pregnancy loss, while regular access provides reassurance and emotional bonding. The study highlights portable ultrasound as a low-cost, scalable intervention with significant implications for maternal mental health, prenatal care equity, and community-based healthcare delivery in underserved regions.
