VPRS 12591 Records of Australian Railway Research and Development Organisation Limited (ARRDO)

This series comprises records of the Australian Railway research and Development Organisation Limited (ARRDO). The ARRDO was registered under the Victorian Companies Act on 14 November 1977. The ARRDO was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee and having no share capital. The sponsoring authorities were the five government owned rail systems: the Public Transport Commission of New South Wales; the Queensland Government Railways; the Victorian Railways; the Western Australian Government Railways; the Australian National Railways, together with the Commonwealth Department of Transport. The Chairman of the Victorian Railways Board was the first Chairman of ARRDO's governing body.The Planning Branch of the Victorian Railways Board and the State Transport Authority worked closely with a number of external bodies including the ARRDO.Records include paysheets, ledger books, account books, invoices, correspondence files, personnel files, and minute books for the period 1977 to 1986. The destruction of records appraised as temporary was authorised by the Keeper of Public Records in 1995, refer to Public Record Office destruction authority D95/96.
