Molecular analysis of ESBL-producing E. coli and K. pneumoniae isolated from patients who underwent abdominal surgery

We analyzed molecular characteristics and resistance genes of isolates from ESBLs carriage in patients who underwent abdominal surgery at the 750-bed tertiary -care hospital where we conducted this study. The detailed information regarding the strains is crucial for health care professionals to be cognizant of the importance of monitoring and reducing intra-abdominal surgery site infection and the spread of resistance genes in prolonged ESBL carriage at high risk.
