studies of Cultured Dehalogenating Microorganisms

This study uses 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing to characterize the shifts in dehalogenating microbial communities during the transformation of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and 1,2,5,6-tetrabromocyclooctane (TBCO). We analyzed the bacterial composition of enrichment cultures to identify populations responsive to these brominated flame retardants and to uncover potential key players in their biotransformation. The data elucidate the microbial ecology underlying the natural attenuation of PBDEs and the emerging contaminant TBCO.
