Time series transcriptomic analyses of mono- and co-culture in medium with and without mucin beads of Roseburia intestinalis and Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron 12

The study of complex communities from an in vitro gut model have shown the evidence of RI in mucin colonization. However, it is not clear why mucin supplementation resulted in a decrease of the relative abundance of Roseburia genera. Here, we built an in vitro system containing mucin gel beads with a diameter of 500 um, to systematically investigate how a spatially structured environment in the presence of mucin beads influences the growth of model gut species BT and RI as well as their interactions.
