ASICS: Antarctic springtails (order Collembola) sampling sites for physiological experiments

ASICS participation in the Spanish Antarctic Campaign in Deception Island focused on thermal tolerance measurement under laboratory conditions of inhabitant collembola species (native and exotic). Fourteen samples in eight localities distributed around Deception Island were collected. The collected species on each place were: Cryptopygus antarcticus and Proisotoma minuta around Irizar; Hypogastrura viatical in Whaler Bay; Mucrosomia caeca and Cryptopygus antarcticus in Kroner; Cryptopygus antarcticus, Folsomotoma octooculata , Hypogastrura viatical and Tullbergia mixta in Playa Lobera; Cryptopygus antarcticus and Proisotoma minuta in Monte Pond; Mucrosomia caeca and Proisotoma minuta in Cerro Caliente. Samples from Punta Descubierta and Stonethrow are still being processed.
