Dataset and Analysis Scripts for: Participatory Game Audio Modding in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition

This repository contains the complete empirical replication package (dataset, custom Python analysis scripts, and high-resolution diagrams) utilized in the doctoral dissertation titled "Participatory Game Audio Modding in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition: A Quantitative and Qualitative Investigation of User-Generated Sound Design" (Istanbul Technical University, 2026). 1. Dataset: The raw data was extracted directly from the Nexus Mods platform - specifically targeting the audio and sound design modification categories for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition - using the Octoparse data extraction tool. The resulting CSV dataset includes mod metadata, endorsement metrics, and descriptive acoustic categorization details of the modifications. 2. Python Scripts and Visualizations: The repository also provides the custom Python scripts (e.g., analyze_full_catalog.py, analyze_endorsements.py, analyze_top30_audio.py) developed to preprocess the raw data, execute statistical analyses, and generate the comparative visual diagrams presented in the thesis. High-resolution versions of the generated spectral and categorical diagrams are included within the directory. This package serves to ensure full methodological transparency and reproducibility for the quantitative and psychoacoustic investigation of participatory game audio modding.
