In the present study, high-throughput 16S rDNA amplicon sequencing wasperformed to assess the possibility of the involvement of gut microbiota in insecticideresistance in Medfly. Three resistant Medfly strains were developed using differentinsecticides Malathion, Dimethoate and Spinosad and their gut bacteria were compared toits parent susceptible. Principle coordinate analysis and linear discriminant effect size resultsrevealed significant differences in the gut microbiota structure between the IS and IR strains.Interestingly, we observed significant changes in the abundances of multiple bacteria in the IRstrains. Specifically, the abundances of Serratia spp and Buttiauxella spp sharply decreased inall of IR strains, while Enterococcus spp and Klebsiella spp genera significantly increased.Lower bacterial richness and diversity was observed in RS strains compared to IS, suggestingthe enrichment of bacterial taxa with a competitive advantage in response to insecticideselection pressure.
