In this study, we characterized the intestinal mycobiome in HIV-infected patients by ITS2 sequencing showing a dysbiotic fungal community with Candida albicans as predominant yeast. Alpha diversity analysis revealed richer mycobiome in HIV-infected subjects than in healthy controls and also that the bacteriome is richer and more diverse than mycobiome in health and HIV infection. Interactions between mycobiota and biomarkers of chronic immune activation were investigated in HIV-infected patients under antiretroviral therapy. Also, we identified different inter-kingdom consortia related to food consumption.
