Critical Habitat for Threatened and Endangered Species This National Geospatial Data Asset (NGDA) dataset, shared as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) feature layer, displays designated critical habitat under the U.S. Endangered Species Act. According to the FWS, “When the Fish and Wildlife Service proposes a species for listing under the Endangered Species Act, we are required to consider whether there are geographic areas that contain essential features on areas that are essential to conserve the species.
