China Geological Survey: 1:1 500 000 Geological Map and Database of the People’s Republic of China (Central South China Region)

The 1:1 500 000 Geological Map of the People’s Republic of China (Central South China Region) is primarily based on 1:250,000-scale regional geological maps and their databases as the primary cartographic data. It fully incorporates data from the 1: 500 000 database of the Western Hunan-Western Hubei, Nanling, and Qin-Hang (western section) metallogenic belts, as well as geological maps of Hunan and Hainan provinces, and integrates the latest findings from 1: 50 000 regional geological surveys, mineral geological surveys, and thematic studies in the Central South China region. The cartographic process is underpinned by plate tectonics and geodynamics theories, utilizing advanced geological mapping technologies and methods such as “iMapower” and MapGIS software for map production. The geological map and spatial database consist of basic feature datasets, independent feature datasets, comprehensive feature datasets, and library files. It ensures accurate topological relationships, standardized file naming, rich content, complete structure and attribute information, and high-quality cartographic output. This digital geological map represents a comprehensive integration of the latest survey data and research findings for the Central South China region, filling the gap in the 1:1 500 000 regional geological map database. It serves as a fundamental geological data source for the preparation of smaller-scale geological maps, geological survey planning, geological disaster prevention, territorial spatial planning, site selection for major engineering projects, the new round of prospecting breakthrough strategic action, and scientific research.
