This dataset comprises 121 topsoil grain size measurements and 116 total organic carbon (TOC) concentration measurements collected from the Taklimakan Desert. This dataset is applicable for the analysis of modern surface processes. Research findings demonstrate that the physicochemical properties of clay-silt layers in two sediment profiles are analogous to those of modern oasis sediments, particularly alluvial deposits, whereas the characteristics of interlayer aeolian sand are similar to those of modern desert sediments. The observed covariation of grain size, soil nutrients and geochemical ratios in surface samples demonstrates that our proposed method can be employed to identify trends in past oasis-desert evolution. The formation of oases largely relies on the development of fluvial and wetland environments, while the degradation of oases is strongly correlated with intense aeolian activities. These findings offer novel insights for oasis-desert sediment analysis and the reconstruction of oasis-desert landscape evolution.
