The main objectives of this study were to calculate the geological accumulation of heavy metals and potential risk indices to assess the extent of heavy metal impact on the river ecosystems of the Miangyuan and Shiting rivers, to reveal the correlation between the abundance of the main hazardous heavy metals and bacterial communities, and to suggest corresponding treatments for contaminated substrates.
