Veratrum nigrum organ-specific transcriptomes. Veratrum nigrum

Veratrum nigrum is protected plant of Melanthiaceae family, able to synthetize unique steroidal alkaloids with important medical applications. The leaf, stalk and root transcriptomes of in vitro maintained V. nigrum plants were sequenced using Illumina technology and annotated. V. nigrum cDNA libraries were used to generate a transcriptome dataset for gene and marker discovery. The transcripts identified will also serve for the purpose of engineering of steroid alkaloids biosynthesis in heterologous expression systems.
