Historical flood record datasets in China from 2000 to 2020

Historical flood disaster data from 2000 to 2020 were gained from the Yearbook of Meteorological Disasters in China. These Yearbooks provided the locations, affected areas, and start and end dates for each flood at the city-level. To complete flood records in China, we collected flood data from news reports and government sources by searching keywords ‘flood’ and ‘Inundation’. Through the collation of all survey data, we gathered a total of 4330 flood records during the study period, 1394 records of which were triggered by tropical cyclones (TC). Among these samples, 1131 non-TC flood records were obtained from news reports and government sources. Due to incomplete data from Taiwan, only mainland China was studied.
