InInCl4 is Iron carbide-like structured and crystallizes in the orthorhombic Pnna space group. The structure is zero-dimensional and consists of four indium molecules and four InCl4 clusters. In each InCl4 cluster, In2+ is bonded in a tetrahedral geometry to four Cl1- atoms. All In–Cl bond lengths are 2.40 Å. There are two inequivalent Cl1- sites. In the first Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one In2+ atom. In the second Cl1- site, Cl1- is bonded in a single-bond geometry to one In2+ atom.
