Sri Chaitanya Bhakti in Royal Tripura and Its Influence: A Historical Perspective

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu's Bhakti Movement was instrumental in providing change in social set up of the country, especially in the north eastern part. He promoted the Bhakti movement, introducing a unique Vaishnava philosophy centered on devotion and unconditional love for Krishna. The movement was not limited to Bengal; rather it extended to other parts of India, significantly influencing the cultural and spiritual perspective of the country. In terms of culture, literature, politics and society, Tripura has long standing ties with greater Bengal. The wave of Bhakti Movement made substantial mark in the literary and cultural field of its neighbouring state Tripura. Tripura, thereby, also, was effected in due course of time when Vaishnava Gurus arrived with a view to promote the Vaishnava Cult. It has significantly shaped the region's culture, art and literature.
