To gain insight into the molecular mechanisms involved in polychaeta immunity, we analyzed the transcriptomic data for lugworm A. marina coelomocytes, specialized motile, mesodermally derived cells populating the coelomic fluid of Annelida. The enrichment of the transcriptome with immune related transcripts was performed by challenging the cells in vitro with E. coli LPS and Zymosan from S. cerevisiae.
