Bacillus thuringiensis as a Gram-positive soil bacterium, is a member of the B. cereus group. B. thuringiensis (Bt) possesses crystal like parasporal proteinaceous inclusions which have unique and selective biocidal activities on different insects, nematodes and human cancer cells. The project study was conducted to identify the parasporin genes and in vitro anticancer activity of parasporal Cry proteins of Bt strains identified from different regions of Bangladesh. B. thuringiensis strain 28s produces three different sizes parasporal Cry proteins and Proteinase K digested Cry proteins from this Bt strain showed strong cytotoxic activity against the human cervical cancer cell line HeLa while non cytotoxic to the Vero cell line. The project of whole genome sequencing of B. thuringiensis strain 28s was therefore undertaken to reveal the potential insights of the bacterium.
