Data for “Environmental factors influencing detection of ring-necked pheasant broods during August roadside surveys”

Roadside surveys are a common monitoring method for ring-necked pheasants used by state wildlife resource agencies to monitor population trends and distribution. However, the consistency of this survey method across space and time may be influenced by environmental conditions at the time of surveys, which could constrain comparisons across broad spatial or temporal scales. We partnered with state wildlife resource agencies to conduct 1000 August roadside surveys on 174 unique route-by-year combinations in 11 U.S. states during 2019 – 2021. We used a single-species N-mixture model in a Bayesian framework to examine environmental factors influencing detection probability of broods. We provide tools to apply the model to estimate detection probability.
