professor academic mobility data merged from ORCID and CCIHE

The 2018 version of ORCID data was collected through Figshare. We limited researchers to U.S. tenure-track or tenured professors, meaning that all affiliations on a researcher’s profile must be in the U.S. (or its territories) and any professorship position needs to be an assistant, associate, or full professorship. To ensure data recency, only profiles that were last updated in October 2016 or later were included. In total, 47,044 professors met the criteria; among them, 38,426 did not have a change in rank or organization and thus not included. We then linked ORCID with CCIHE. The linkage resulted in 10,656 records that are fully matched with CCIHE; among these, 4,718 only had rank change and 5,938 have an organization change (2,278 had both rank and organization change while 3,660 only had organization change). Several columns in the current data contain numeric codes from CCIHE. CCIHE data including code book can be downloaded at http://carnegieclassifications.iu.edu/downloads/CCIHE2018-PublicData.xlsx
