Expression of genes encoding plant biomass degrading enzymes in ascomycetes is controlled by transcriptional activators that respond to the presence of monomeric components of plant polymers. It can be expected that a similar system exists in basidiomycetes, but no homologs of the ascomycete regulators could be identified in basidiomycetes. Overall design: To identify candidate regulators of plant biomass degradation in D. squalens, transcriptomics on monomeric carbon sources will be analyzed.
