Sediment virus

Dataset Generation & Processing Steps: Sediment samples (n=28) were collected in May 2023 from the Houxi River basin and Xinglin Bay, Jimei District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province. Sites were selected along an urbanization gradient from upstream to downstream, and samples were collected at each site using a sediment collector. Samples were immediately transported to the laboratory and stored at 4°C. For viral DNA extraction, samples were first subjected to virus enrichment using PBS buffer, FeCl₃ precipitation, and ascorbic acid dissolution. Free DNA was removed using a DNase I kit (TIANGEN, China). Viral DNA was then extracted following the DNeasy PowerSoil Pro Kits (Qiagen, USA) protocol. Qualified viral DNA samples were sent to Magigene Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Guangzhou, China) for virome sequencing (15 GB of data per sample, paired-end PE150) on the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform.Time: May 2023.Space: Houxi River basin and Xinglin Bay, Jimei District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, China (Longitude 118.035°E – 118.086°E; Latitude 24.589°N – 24.654°N).
