To survey the eukaryotic diversity in Canadian lakes, a fragment of the 18S rRNA gene V7 region was amplified using the universal primer set 960F (5'-GGCTTAATTTGACTCAACRCG-3') and NSR1438 (5'-GGGCATCACAGACCTGTTAT-3') from DNA sampled from the surface waters of 382 lakes (filtered between 0.22 to 100 µm).
