The concept of hyper-local dynamic elevation adjustment is unique to Weather Source and is our newest data feature. Dynamic Elevation Adjustment, applies true meteorological modeling to accurately determine and predict weather conditions in complex terrain and in areas where weather sensing is more limited. We have applied Dynamic Elevation Adjustment to our ECMWF & HRRR forecast’s and soon to be applied to all resources. Many weather providers do not offer elevation adjusted forecasts and a few offer less skillful elevation adjustments based on ‘the standard temperature lapse rate with height.’ While the standard lapse rate is a convenient and easy adjustment to employ, it often performs poorly when the weather is ‘non-standard’ such as during stormy conditions. Weather Source uses an advanced physics-based method to derive our Dynamic Elevation Adjustment instantaneously via our API to deliver the most accurate weather information for any location and elevation on demand. Weather Source’s Dynamic Elevation Adjustment works within models from NOAA (HRRR) and the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) to calculate the actual local lapse rate, which allows us to resolve weather conditions such as temperature inversions that can lead to weather such as freezing rain. In addition, with our Dynamic Elevation Adjustment, Weather Source is able to properly adjust for all weather variables including temperature, wind, humidity, rain, and snow, among others for any elevation and location. This is all calculated instantly through our API and is offered globally for any location and lat/lon. The result is best in class weather data accuracy at a hyper-local scale.
