资源简介:
Two pollen samples from the Mill Pond Wharf Site (NE03 Trench A, grid h) and two samples of mill pond bottom deposits from the Causeway Street excavations (MP01 Trench A) were examined during Phase II testing (Figure 1) . One mill pond bottom sample appeared to be organic, muddy site best described as "muck", while the other sample consisted of clay with shell and plant fragments. One wharfside sample was taken from a matrix thought to represent dry land deposit, and the other, looking much like the pond bottom muck, came from between two wharf timbers. Pollen preservation proved to be quite good in all samples and there appeared to be significant differences between the spectra of the mill pond bottom and wharf samples and between the dry land and wharf samples at the wharf site. The potential of the Mill Pond Wharf Site for groundcover and site function pollen data appeared to be high, and it was recommended for Phase III palynological investigation (Kelso 1989:104, Figure B.3) .
