The Brevard County Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus) unusual mortality event (UME) has been ongoing since late summer of 2012. The majority of the recovered manatee carcasses associated with the UME appear healthy and lack a clear cause of death. We wanted to determine the bacterial community of some of these individuals.
