**Overview**
This data package contains information regarding CAHPS Comparison for Top Box Scores by Population and Adult Survey 2 Top Box Scores by Specialty and State. It provides data over CAHPS Practice Site Respondents by Region Ownership Mode and Provider, Health Plan Samples by State and HCAHPS of National and State Averages. It also contains dataset for Hospital Consumer Assessment of Providers and Patient Survey and Maryland’s Quality-Based Reimbursement (QBR) program for the fiscal year 2014.

**Description**
This data package contains the Top box scores display the percentage of respondents reporting the most positive response for a composite, rating, or question item at the respondent level. Top box scores are presented for several practice characteristics, such as region, physician specialty, provider type, practice ownership, survey completion mode and physicians working each week. Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys ask consumers about their experiences with health care. The CAHPS program at the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) supports the development and promotion of CAHPS surveys, toolkit materials, comparative databases, and provides technical assistance to users. It presents summary-level results for the CAHPS Health Plan Survey 5.0 version for the following health plan enrollee populations: Adult Medicaid, Child Medicaid, CHIP Child, and Medicare Managed Care.

The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Patient Survey is a survey instrument and data collection methodology for measuring patients’ perception of their hospital experience. This dataset reports the results for the HCAHPS Patient Survey by the hospital, state as well as national level. The HCAHPS Patient Survey is part of a national initiative by the United States Department of Health and Human Services to measure the quality of care in hospitals. Maryland’s Quality-Based Reimbursement (QBR) program is in place since July 2009 and uses similar measures to the federal Medicare Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) program, which is in place since October 2012. The response percentage and the number of completed surveys for this dataset are included for year 2014. Due to Maryland’s long-standing Medicare waiver for its all-payer hospital rate-setting system and the implementation of the Quality-Based Reimbursement (QBR) program, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has given Maryland various special considerations, including annual exemption from the Medicare VBP program.
