Data and Code for the Effective Number of Manifesto Issues

This dataverse contains the Stata code to generate the ENMI measures used in Greene (2016, 2017, 2020) as well as .dta and .csv files containing the output with Comparative Manifestos Project data. The primary variable names are enmi and ensh_mi referring to the effective number of issues constructed from the Herfindahl Index, enmi, or Shannon's H, ensh_mi. The Herfinahl priveleges a smaller number of larger categories or monopolies in the estimates relative to Shannon's H. Regardless the outputs are highly correlated.
