VPRS 10083 Fraud Registers (Civil Debt)

This series consists of the Registers of the Melbourne Court of Petty Sessions hearing cases against fraudulent debtors.These Registers are standard Court of Petty sessions Registers with details entered under the headings of No; Prosecutor, Informant, Complainant or Applicant; Accused or Defendant; How Before the Court; Fees; Charge, Cause or Proceeding; Decision, Memo of Conviction or Order and Remarks.Complainants are most usually business firms seeking the recovery of debts. Cases brought were to do with the non-payment of fines, with the seeking of an Order to pay the complainant, applications to commit to gaol as the defendant had failed to pay the debt although having the means to do so and for oral examination regarding the non-payment of the debt.
