The strain SJL (Swiss Jim Lambert) is amongst those lines. SJL is a Swiss Webster stock brought to the Jackson laboratory in the year forties and derived from three different Swiss mouse lines (http://www.informatics.jax.org/external/festing/mouse/docs/SJL.shtml). This mix between these Swiss Webster stocks lines has generated genomic changes leading to spontaneous phenotypes that are interest in the field of biomedical research. For instance SJL is a very popular model of relapse for multiple sclerosis in mice (experimental autoimmune encephalyomyelitis. The SJL mice exhibit immune defects in various cell types (NK cells or B cells) leading in increase susceptibility or resistance to infections (virus#es, bact#eri#a# or parasites (ma##l#aria# as well ##a#s worms#). Importantly SJL strain is very popular in the field of transgenesis and assisted reproductive technologies and used as ovocyte donors for transgeni#c i#njections#. However, the structure of the genome of this mouse strain is unfortunately poorly known. Only a handful of publications have reported it ##(#for instance#). To fill this gap in knowledge and to facilitate biomedical research in the field of neurology, immunology as well as infectious diseases or reproductive biology, we propose to sequence SJL/J on the X10 platform, publish and make it available via the mouse genomes web portal.
