Daily Time Series of Air Temperature and Relative Humidity in Southwestern Praia, Cabo Verde. First Dataset (March 2024 - March 2025)

A small, low-cost urban mesoscale network of thermo-hygrometers was installed in March 2024 in the southwestern part of the city of Praia, the capital of Cabo Verde. Developed as part of the CLIMUS project—an initiative led by the University of Lisbon (Faculty of Architecture and the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning) and the University of Cabo Verde (CIDLOT)—this network represents the first systematic effort to monitor thermo-hygrometric conditions in Cabo Verdean cities. It builds on earlier research such as the urban bioclimate and thermal comfort assessment conducted in Praia by [1], highlighting the continued need for high-resolution climatic data in rapidly urbanizing African contexts. The network comprises four measurement points strategically selected based on urban morphology and topography. Air temperature and relative humidity are recorded at 15-minute intervals using Tinytag Ultra 2 (TGU-4500) sensors, housed in radiation shields specially designed by the Faculty of Architecture. The sensors are mounted on public lighting poles to ensure adequate exposure and standardized installation across sites. This dataset marks the first public release of data from this network, covering the period from March 26, 2024, to March 26, 2025. It provides daily average and extreme values, which are openly available for use. The data are organized in individual files—one for each measurement site—and provided in GeoJSON format to facilitate integration with both open-source and commercial GIS applications. The dataset will be updated regularly through future releases, allowing for extended temporal coverage and continued public access to high-resolution urban climate data for the city of Praia.
