Share of persons under 6 living in households without income from work

The key indicator reports the number of children under the age of 18 with none of the parents having a total labour income for children under 18 as of December 31. As soon as a parent is “occupied” according to the socio-economic nomenclature, the child is considered to be living in a household with income from work. Children in households for which it is unknown whether there is an income from work (no employment parent and socio-economic position of one or both parents = “other”) are not taken into account in the calculation (approximately 10 % of the under-18s known to the BCSS). Persons who are not known to Belgian social security (e.g.: outgoing diplomats and frontier workers) are in the “other” category.
