BIU Transition to Parenthood Study, 2019

The Transition-to-Parenthood (TTP) study involves multiple waves of dyadic data collection with a sample of first-time parents, starting in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy with a single expected child, and continuing through 2 years post-partum. Eligibility: Cohabitation for 12 months or more; proficiency in Hebrew (all measures were administered in Hebrew, with forward and backward translation from/to English). Participants ranged in age from 19 to 46 years old. On average, women were 28.7 (SD = 4.3) years old and men were 30.3 (SD = 4.1) years old. The average relationship length was 4.9 years (SD = 2.9), and 96.3% were married. Phases: Pre-partum (full data from 108 couples) 1. Online background questionnaires including demographic, personality, and relational measures 2. A subsequent home visit (in which additional questionnaires were administered) which also included two computerized tasks: an anti-saccade (executive control) task as well as an implicit single-category IAT linking parenthood and me/not-me. Post-partum - Starting at 15-weeks (full data from 100 couples) 3. First, a set of online follow-up questionnaires was completed. 4. Couples then took part in a lab visit involving (a) the same two cognitive tasks completed prepartum (i.e., anti-saccade and IAT); (b) four lab-based videotaped dyadic interactions (support capitalization, with each partner playing both roles), during which physiological measures (e.g., EDA, ECG) were obtained, after baseline physiology was assessed (with each participant staying set for 6-min in a separate room). 5. A 21-day dyadic daily diary was then completed using Qualtrics. Post-partum - at 6 months (full data from 98 couples plus two individuals) 6. A set of online follow-up questionnaires.
