To quantify the ground volumes in the Western Fosheim Peninsula, Ellesmere Island (NU, Canada), 152 boreholes were drilled to depths of 1 to 8 meters from 1972 and 1974. This borehole was drilled on 1973-07-20 with a hand-held drill near Eureka and is 1.8 m deep. The dataset describes soil stratigraphy, volumetric ground ice content, and surface deposits. Volumetric ice content was determined with a combination of visual estimates and laboratory measurements.

The Atmospheric Environment Service of Environment Canada permitted access to the unpublished Eureka weather station journal in 1973. The field logs were painstakingly transcribed into an orderly body by Theresa Grasby. Result digitizing was supported by PermafrostNet Theme 1.
