The new demands and challenges (population growth, land degradation, climate change, environmental pollution, etc.) of the world have pushed the national food security, ecological environment health and other issues to an unprecedented strategic height. Synthetic microbial community inoculants (SMC) play important roles in improving crop yield and quality, guarantying food safety and realizing the sustainable development of agriculture. It is of great significance for the development and application of highly efficient and stable microbial inoculants to analyze the synergistic growth promoting mechanism of highly efficient SMC in soil ecosystem. In this project, We will screen cyanobacteria, bacillus and fungi with the functions of promoting growth, disease prevention and stress resistance for the main crops (rice, wheat, etc.) in China and Kazakhstan, construct efficient and multifunctional synthetic microbial inoculants according to the species functions and interactions, build mathematical models for the formation of synthetic microbial inoculants on the basis of analyzing the mechanism of synergetic growth promotion and antagonism of synthetic microbial inoculants, carry out field experiments in China and Kazakhstan to comprehensively evaluate the effects of synthetic microbial inoculants on crop yield, quality and soil microecology.
