NRS-20203 | Summary of Rate Books [Hume Pastures Protection Board]

This series is comprised of registers recording the summary of rate payments to the Hume Pastures Protection Board (situated in the Holbrook area).The registers include the following information: folio number; arrears brought forward including rates, interest and the total amount; assessed carrying capacity of land other than agricultural land, including Large stock and sheep; Acreage of holding, including agricultural land and other land; arrears of rates; stock and current rate, both large stock and sheep @ £ per head, amount of rate; amount of deduction of rates in respect of area enclosed by a rabbit proof fence or within a group; total amount of assessment by Board; total amount of assessment on Appeal; total amount of rates payable; payments of rates made, date and amount; number of receipt; amount of rates still due; and arrears of rates. Some of the later registers also include columns for recording the price for sheep, large stock, including cattle and horses, and pigs. Also recorded is interest received from Cattle compensation Fund and Noxious Insects.The Pastures Protection Act No. 111, 1902, section 16(b) states, "Every board shall cause true and regular accounts to be kept of all moneys received or paid by it under this Act, and shall give the owner of any land or the occupier of any private holding within the district access to such accounts at all reasonable hours.The Pastures and Stock Protection Act No. 14, 1898, section 19 states, "The board of every district shall cause books to be provided and true and regular accounts to be entered therein of moneys received and paid under the authority of this Act and the ratepayers in such district shall have access at all reasonable times to such books."
