AMT survey on car and household cleaning

Previous studies have shown that women keep better hygiene and housekeeping than men. We attempted to check if this cleaning tendency is general, or whether it is context dependent. Specifically, we tested whether men are the primary car cleaners, and whether they keep their cars cleaner than women. We conducted a survey in the US (N = 1,041) using Amazon Mechanical Turk. Study results show that the traditional gender difference in cleaning is reversed when it comes to cars. More women than men reported being the primary home cleaner, whereas more men than women reported being the primary car cleaner. Results are in accordance with evolutionary psychology.
