We used the Web of Science (WOS) database to search for pertinent literature to examine current research trends. The results showed 2961 papers from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2024. Boolean operators were used to make up the search query using the combined keywords, including ("Land degradation" OR "land erosion" OR "degraded land" OR "soil erosion" OR "Degraded soil" OR "Soil degradation") AND ("Afforestation" OR "Agroforestry" OR "Silviculture" OR "grassland " OR "pasture" OR "Land Use Change" OR "Land restoration" OR "Vegetation cover" OR "land use system") AND ("Carbon Sequestration" OR "carbon sink" OR "carbon capture" OR "carbon pool" OR "organic carbon" OR "organic matter" OR "terrestrial carbon") following ‘TITLE-ABS-KEY’ i.e., title, abstract, and keywords of the relevant literature.
