CEIC Leading Indicator - Sample

The CEIC Leading Indicator is a proprietary dataset designed by CEIC Insights to precede the development of major macroeconomic indicators and predict the turning points of the economic cycle. It is a composite leading indicator which is calculated by aggregating and weighting selected leading indicators covering various important sectors of the economy, such as financial markets, the monetary sector, labour market, trade and industry. It is developed through a proprietary CEIC methodology and employs data from the CEIC database.

The dataset contains samples with selected series for China, Brazil and India.

The CEIC Leading Indicator currently covers 8 regions – Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, the Euro Area, Japan and the United States. It employs component series from different economic sectors (check the methodology section for further details). The CEIC Leading Indicator for each region is released in two versions – raw and smoothed. While the raw version provides a more accurate view of the dynamics of the indicator for the given period, the smoothed version cleans outliers and could be more useful for the direction in the long run.

The dataset is part of the World Trend Plus database.
