Southeast and Northeast facing slopes have the least potential for tree growth in Northern and Southern Tropics, respectively

The dataset presents the median and mean values for tree cover (TC) (Hansen Global Forest Change v1.9 (2000-2021)) measured at a 30-meter resolution, across 127 protected areas in the tropics. To provide a detailed analysis, the data are further segmented into eight distinct slope aspects, characterized using Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) data with a 30 m resolution, allowing for a comprehensive understanding of how tree cover varies across different topographical features. Additionally, the dataset includes median values computed for various slope and elevation ranges across different aspects, providing insights into how these factors influence tree cover within each protected area.
