GPD1 enhances the anti-cancer effects of metformin by synergistically increasing total cellular glycerol-3-phosphate

GPD1 overexpression enhances the anti-cancer effect of metformin through synergistic inhibition of mitochondrial function, thereby providing new insight into metformin-mediated cancer therapy. To further explore the potential molecular mechanisms of how GPD1 affects cancer cell growth with or without metformin, we upregulated GPD1 expression in A549 and786-O cells which showed relatively low GPD1 expression, and then performed the RNA-seq in A549-NC, A549-GPD1, 786-O-NC and 786-O-GPD1 cells, with or without metformin treatment.
