The aggregate gland glue coating the prey-capture threads of orb web and cobweb weaving spiders is encoded by member of the spidroin silk gene family. In order to advance current knowledge of aggregate spidroin 1 (AgSp1), we isolated and performed RNA-seq using aggregate gland tissue from Argiope aurantia and Argiope trifasciata, as well as major ampullate and fat body tissues for comparison.
