Biggest international and domestic payment card schemes in Denmark 2016-2022

Domestic scheme Dankort led the market for card payments in Denmark, before the source integrated it within its tracking of Visa. Whilst Dankort did not have the same dominance as UnionPay in China, it is relatively unusual for an in-market local card scheme to be ahead of either Visa and Mastercard. This may stem from the popularity of debit cards over credit cards in Danish POS transactions, as Dankort focuses on debit card payments.
