National Identity, 1995, Northern Norwegian part of ISSP

Many projects within social science research obtain data from sample surveys. From and including 1989, Norway became a member of the international collaborative project "International Social Survey Project", which carries out a coordinated interview survey in the member countries every year. In these surveys, Norwegian researchers participate with questions within the same topic as in ISSP's module. The investigations are thus usually divided into three parts:

ISSP's module, which is carried out in all ISSP member countries
A Norwegian module with additional questions that is completed only in Norway
Demographic and socio-economic variables, e.g. a. background variables for ISSP

In 1995, the aim was to collect data on national identity and national attitudes.

The questions cover topics such as the nation state, supranationality and integration, sub-national interests, immigration, minority issues, local orientation, globalism, pluralism, use of national symbols, political trust and participation.

ISSP 1995 National Identity is included in the survey.

About the survey:
Population: Persons aged 16-79, living in Norway
Selection: Simple random selection from the Central Personal Register
Gross sample: 2,300 people + additional sample of 699 from Nord-Troms/Finnmark
