Escherichia cryptic clades are monophyletic lineages not assigned to species. We characterised six cryptic clades and additionally described a novel species (Escherichia ruysiae) encompassing former cryptic clades III and IV. To obtain a complete genome of the type strain of this novel species, we sequenced it using Illumina and Nanopore technologies.
