Stratospheric polar vortex shapes Arctic surface climate via a radiative pathwayTo investigate the impact of the lower-stratospheric polar vortex on surface climate, two experiments are performed using CAM6: the control experiment and nudging experiment (SPV_50). We assess the strong SPV impacts by contrasting the means of appropriate variables in the last 55 years of the two 60-year simulations (5 years for spin-up) for the CAM6 simulations.To analyze the downward effects of the SPV on a daily basis in simulations, we performed a 40-member ensemble of stratospheric nudging simulations using WACCM6. The downward effects of the SPV are obtained as the difference between two ensemble means for WACCM6.<br>
