This meta-analysis evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of abdominal ultrasound in detecting acute appendicitis. Twelve studies (1989–2024) were analyzed using the QUADAS-2 quality tool. The pooled sensitivity was 77 % (95 % CI 70–84) and specificity 60 % (95 % CI 52–68). Findings support ultrasound as a reliable and safe first-line imaging test, especially in pediatric and emergency settings.
